The mission of the Fellowship of the Commons is to enable people who seek fundamental change to have a dramatic political impact; people who understand the urgency of the environmental crises; people who refuse to accept the injustices and inequities in our society; people who desire meaning and purpose.
The human race is at the crossroad between a future of cruel competition that would demean us and continue to degrade the earth, or one of uplifting cooperation that could lead us to recognize again how profound life is and to seek its renewal. As Americans, we possess the political freedom to shape not only our own destiny by our response to the demands of this moment, but to have a pivotal influence on other nations. We must act now as never before to fullfill the promise of democracy and to correct the inner illogic of an economic system that rewards the few at the expense of the many while ignoring eventual breakdown or collapse, by its own hand.
Our organization is constructing a political framework within which citizens can assert control of their local economies and public policies while at the same time organizing themselves into a national campaign of unprecedented magnitude. A revolutionary movement, one capable of shaking democracy loose from the grip of the privileged few, reclaiming the Commons for all Americans and inspiring a vigorous new ethos.
